Living In The Moment

We seem to have come to the end of another month… how did that happen? Time is going by so quickly lately that it feels a tiny bit overwhelming.

One of the reasons I started doing this journal is to keep on track with my goals, and help you stay focused for yours, whilst also connecting with you all and giving you a little insight into the life behind the art.

With that being said, we set ourselves some goals last month, do you remember yours? Mine was to send off my portfolio to a variety of agencies and magazines, 5 of each to be exact. And I can say I managed to send it off to 2 agencies and 5 magazines. So not fully successful but still a step forward.

I have always had certain magazines/newspapers in my head that I would love to see my art in, which is why completing that side of the goal was pretty easy. Agencies, on the other hand, are harder to pick. You need to choose someone who fits what you’re looking for, but also, you have to be right for what they represent. It takes a little more time and research. However, I will make sure to send off my portfolio to the remaining 3 agencies before the month is over so I’m able to tick off my goal.

Now before I set my next goal something very exciting has happened, if you haven’t noticed already, I have a new page live on my website.

Hooray!

It’s the Comic Strips page. I have loved drawing little snippets of my life and inner thoughts to share with you all but didn't think they fitted on my main portfolio page. Hence why I have created them their very own home and replaced the Brand work page. Seeing you all connect with them on my socials have spurred me on to create some more and sooooooo, drumroll please… next months goal will be to create 2 comic strips AND plan the opening chapter of a graphic novel I have had planned for AGESSSS.

Make sure to set yourself a new goal too.

Now for a little life update, I had a training session at work this month (internal scream) which I don’t normally enjoy. My fellow introverts will get what I mean when I say the two following words and how they cause a shiver to go down my spine - team building. I hate it.

However, this training session was around a motivational speaker and he taught us how you can be the best version of yourself. He said stop saying things like ‘I’ll be happy when…’, or ‘I’ll be good enough when…’ , and instead just start living in the moment - thinking ‘Today I feel happy because…’ and ‘I’m good enough because…’. I found this really inspiring, being grateful for the little things in life, rather than feeling overwhelmed by everything you don’t yet have. I’m a strong believer in you get back what you put out, so happy positive thoughts all the way!

Another little update, next week I will be taking myself on a cute solo trip to a cabin in the woods. I’ll be hiking, relaxing and, of course, drawing. I’m planning to bring a variety of drawing materials, as I want to step away from the iPad, and just screens in general, for the week. I’m not entirely sure what I’ll produce, but going back to traditional drawing is how I first discovered my style, so I’m excited to see where this leads me!

Even though I will be going away in April, I’ll be sure to update you on how it goes. I’ll write all about my trip in the next journal entry and share my work on socials, so keep an eye out. One task I will be doing is scene drawings, I saw someone post about this on TikTok, where you take a sketchbook page, draw random shaped squares or rectangles and then fill them with things you see around the day. It looked like a great idea to improve background drawing.

Why not try this as well and have some fun with it!

Speak soon,

Lora x
