Love, Lemons & A Little Life Drama
It’s February the month of LOVE, pancakes and apparently consistent rain.
My valentines day plans were cuddling up with the dogs and my niece on the sofa, eating a take away and watching a movie. It was bliss.
I didn’t have a sexy date night planned and truthfully, I wouldn’t have enjoyed all the fuss anyway. I like things simple. Low pressure. No grand gestures. No expectations. Just comfort. Maybe it’s because there’s less chance of feeling overwhelmed. Maybe it’s because peace and quiet are simply underrated. Or maybe I’m just getting older and value a cosy evening more than a crowded one. Maybe that’s boring, but that’s me.
Grandma era is well and truly unlocked.
Pancake Day, however, is where I draw the line on “keeping it simple.”
The more toppings the better in my book. I’m talking fruit, chocolate, syrups, spreads, the works. Don’t get me wrong, I do love good old lemon and sugar or a simple chocolate spread pancake but the sicklier the better.
Now the rest of February has been a bit of a mad one…
To start with I had to fight a cat off from attacking me and Lottie (my whippet, who definitely started the fight). Then I caught my hair in her lead and nearly gave myself an early bald spot and finally I had a date cancel after I had already fully gotten ready. All in the space of a week, may I add. So let’s just say I’m looking forward to March.
But we brush ourselves off and move on to more exciting things.
Updating the portfolio!
So if you have been following me on socials then you would have seen the different steps I have been taking that an agency advised me to do. But if you did happen to miss it then here are the steps I have covered so far.
Step one - Mock-ups. These are little images where you showcase how your work looks on your chosen media. For me, I have used magazine mock-ups as I would like to get into editorial illustration, but you might prefer to use product or book cover mock-ups.
Step two - Sport. This was the first topic they advised me to include, overall there were 3 which I am making my way through. I found this one pretty fun to cover as I like going to the gym, I like swimming and I also love the mental health benefits exercise has for us.
Step three - Travel. This is the step I am currently on and if you managed to tune into my TikTok Lives you would have seen me redoing my first piece. It wasn’t the best…but after some trial and error I’m really happy with the final look and added it straight into my portfolio! I have one more illustration to do for this section before I move on.
Now I’m not going to ruin the other steps as I haven’t mentioned them on my socials just yet. But if you’re curious make sure you follow along!
Plans for next month are to have my portfolio fully complete and start sending out to agencies again! I also want to stop being so nervous about drawing on Lives but that might be a work in progress…all tips are welcome.
I hope you have all had an amazing February, no bad luck, and I'll catch you next month!
